Free Flow

Free Flow is a state of fluidity and deep connection between the therapist and the patient, transcending words and fostering a unique and transformative experience. The concept of Free Flow was developed by Harold Dull, the primary innovator of Watsu. It arises when the therapist reaches a high level of skill, the result of years of practice and dedication.

This state enables an intuitive and sensitive reading of the patient’s needs, who, in turn, is also prepared for this more advanced experience. Typically, we use Free Flow when the client has undergone several sessions of conventional aquatic therapies or has a history of bodywork practices. These individuals are ready to explore, both physically and on psychic and spiritual levels. In this experience, the patient must be willing to delve into the depths of their being but also view the process as playful, allowing lightness and pleasure to guide the journey.

A Free Flow session may last only a few minutes, but it is remarkable how this short amount of time can yield profound and satisfying results. This is due to the high concentration of intention, the precise execution of movements, and the authentic connection between therapist and patient.

Although the movements of Free Flow may appear random to an observer, each gesture is meticulously studied, both in terms of biomechanics and its emotional impacts. Some movements have the potential to evoke deep emotions and, in some cases, even catharsis. When this occurs, it is essential for the therapist to be prepared to provide emotional support.

A therapist properly trained in Free Flow has the skill to identify these blockages, understand the patient’s needs, and offer the necessary support for them to emotionally process what surfaces during the session. Free Flow is a silent and profound practice between therapist and patient, an invitation to self-discovery and healing on often unexplored levels. Whether for relaxation, releasing tensions, or accessing deeper aspects of one’s being, it offers a powerful and transformative path.
